When an enforcement agent may use force or a locksmith

Entry powers depend on the authority, debt, premises and whether this is initial entry or lawful re-entry. Ordinary civil entry to a home is usually through a usual means, without force against a person.

Different powers can apply to specified court fines, tax debts, commercial premises, evictions and re-entry. Ask for the precise authority; do not use force or obstruct lawful action.

Use 999 only for violence, immediate danger or a crime in progress. Record events and obtain urgent advice about a stay, return of goods or damage.
