Paying council tax arrears after enforcement has begun

Paying the council directly does not necessarily cancel statutory enforcement fees or prevent further action. Timing, stage and allocation matter.

Ask the council and company for current balances, liability-order references and payment instructions. Send proof of payment immediately and request written confirmation of the enforcement status.

Where the debt, allocation or fees are disputed, use the appropriate review, complaint or court procedure. Vulnerability should be notified with a specific adjustment request.
